Family Friendly Days Out At Easter in Cardiff and South Wales 

Here’s our run down of the best family events taking place in the Easter holidays in Cardiff and South Wales, incorporating all the normal festivities of Easter Egg hunts and Easter games, and also some less traditional ones if you get a little bored of all the chocolate!

The Big Museum Easter Trail 

The Big Museum Easter Trail offers a chance for your little one to complete a cute craft to become a detective bunny, then set off on their way to search for bunny friends hiding around the Museum. With three different challenges to complete, the trail is perfect for a bit of Easter themed fun, taking place across the Easter weekend (7th – 10th April.) It is available across all National Museum sites, including the National Roman Legion Museum, St Fagans National Museum of History and National Waterfront Museum. There is also an arts and crafts workshop and lots to explore at each museum if you want to incorporate some educational fun into the Easter holidays!

Margam Park - Easter Bank Holiday Family Fun Day

The beautiful Margam park is hosting an Easter extravaganza for all the family on the 10th April. Lots of popular characters will be there to delight your little ones, including Peppa Pig, Shrek, Lightning McQueen and Titan the Robot. There will also be circus and play workshops, storytelling tales of Princesses’ and Dragons, and fire shows. 

This is all taking place in the grounds of the park so appropriate clothing and footwear is advised. There is a fantastic playground and fairy tale village to explore too, as well as resident animals and orangery gardens to visit, all set in 1000 acres of park and woodland. There’s plenty of wildlife to spot, including wild deer.

Aberdare Park

After the massive success of their Easter family fun day last year, Aberdare park is hosting two days across Easter Sunday and Monday this year and they’re bringing out all the stops. 

There will be a range of classic Easter activities for children including an egg hunt and Easter bonnet competition, as well as crazy golf, a bouncy castle, fairground rides, face painting and pirate ship, alongside children’s entertainers. Your little one can meet the Easter bunny and his friends, and Peter Rabbit. There is also swan and dragon pedalos to try out on the lake, and a lovely cafe selling light bites, hot drinks and ice creams. The event will be running from 11am – 5pm both days.

Mountain View Ranch

There is so much to do and see at Mountain View ranch, including their famous Gruffalo trail and jumping pillow. Kids can complete the trails, finding things along the way. There’s also a fun adventure playground, soft archery, double zip wire, fairy forest, three tree houses and guinea pigs to see. You can finish your day off with a delicious wood fired pizza available at their cafe, or bring a picnic and choose a spot! A fantastic day full of fresh air and Easter fun is guaranteed.

Mumbles Pier

Mumbles Pier has an exciting array of events this year to celebrate Easter by the seaside, which include, visit the Easter bunny burrow, afternoon tea, the Good Friday Easter Egg Hunt on the beach and the interactive story telling session “The Easter Egg Adventures.” The events vary in price from as little as £4.00 and all of them include a chocolate egg for your little one! A lovely choice for plenty of family fun in the sea air.

Royal Mint

The Royal Mint Experience is one of Wales’ top tourist attractions and offers visitors unprecedented access to The Royal Mint and it’s history. 

For Easter,they are hosting chocolate making workshops where children can make their own chocolate lollipops and decorate their creations with plenty of sprinkles! They are also running science workshops for children which introduces children to a range of careers in scientific and engineering fields.

Amelia Trust Farm

The Amelia Trust Farm in Barry is home to over 20 species of animals from reptiles to alpacas and a must visit for any little animal lovers. The farm is set in a picturesque 160 acre woodland and a great choice for a family walk over the Easter holidays. Alongside their lovely animals, they also have tractor rides, lawn games, face painting, and an Easter trail for children to complete as part of their Big Easter Event. A great choice for some wholesome Easter fun and to get the whole family outside enjoying the fresh air. The farm is a registered small charity that runs programmes to help support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people by providing alternative educational interventions. They have indoor and outdoor areas for picnics, and a coffee van when the weather is good.

Caerphilly Castle

Caerphilly Castle is hosting an Easter egg hunt in their spectacular medieval setting this year as well as a number of Easter craft activities suitable for all ages. The fortress sprawls over 30 acres and is the largest in Wales. The museum itself is fantastic for children with plenty of interactive features and extensive information on the history of the castle. It is open to visitors throughout the Easter holidays with up to date visiting information on their website.

Hey Duggee at Wales Millenium Centre

Described as a “joyous piece of family entertainment,” the hit Cbeebies show Hey Duggee comes to the stage at the Wales Millenium Centre from the 7th-8th April. The production is vibrant and interactive with music, puppets and laughs to keep your little ones enthralled throughout. A brilliant introduction to live theatre for young children, the show runs for approximately 55 minutes. There is a relaxed performance on Saturday 8th April at 1pm. The Wales Millenium Centre is home to a brand new cafe bar, Ffwrnais which you can visit before or after the show, and serves up breakfast, lunch and snacks.

The Red Dragon Centre

This year The Red Dragon Centre are hosting a fantastic free spring safari trail, inviting visitors to take a walk on the wild side. The trail offers something a little bit different from the traditional chocolate egg hunt for the children to get stuck into. The centre is also full of entertainment options, absolutely perfect for a rainy day. These include ten pin bowling, the Odeon cinema and plenty of great restaurants to choose from.
